Celebrate Grenadian Culture This Holiday Season with Black Island Lifestyle

This holiday season, Silversands Grenada brings the festive spirit alive with its “Nutmeg & Mistletoe” program, featuring unique creations from Black Island Lifestyle, led by founder and designer Rhennel Joseph. Known for blending Caribbean culture with modern design, Rhennel’s handcrafted pieces turn Grenadian heritage into stunning holiday décor.

Bringing Grenada’s Traditions to Life

“Grenada’s culture and natural beauty inspire everything I create,” says Rhennel. Nutmeg, a staple of Grenadian Christmas—from baking to seasonal scents—became the inspiration for her signature festive ornament. “I aim to create décor that feels festive yet deeply rooted in our culture, something that can be enjoyed beyond the holiday season.”

The Nutmeg Ornament: A Symbol of Heritage

The nutmeg-themed ornament was an organic creation. Rhennel explains, “Nutmeg represents Grenada’s soul—heritage, pride, and identity. Turning it into a holiday décor allowed me to tell a Grenadian story through design.” Each piece is hand-painted and unique, reflecting the island’s individuality and craftsmanship.

Modern Design Meets Tradition

Black Island Lifestyle combines traditional Caribbean elements with contemporary design. “Every piece is handmade in small batches, ensuring cultural authenticity and quality,” Rhennel notes. These creations aren’t just décor—they’re meaningful keepsakes and conversation starters for guests visiting Grenada.

Inspiring Local Artistry

Beyond the holidays, Rhennel hopes to showcase Grenadian talent: “I want visitors and locals to recognize that Grenada offers more than generic souvenirs. Celebrating locally made products nurtures our creative culture and inspires future artists.”

Looking Ahead

Rhennel is excited to expand collaborations with resorts and tourism partners, envisioning locally made décor and gifts that blend tradition with modern design—items guests can treasure long after their stay.
