Painting Stories: A Conversation with The Artist Duo behind Pintura
At the vibrant heart of Merveilles at Port Louis, families and little explorers are greeted by bold murals full of life, color, and culture. Behind the brushstrokes is the dynamic duo Pintura by Fari & Clau, whose work brings Grenadian stories to life in a way that’s playful, thoughtful, and unforgettable. With inspiration drawn from the Kid’s Club walls to the pages of the illustrated kids’ menu, their art inspires wonder and connection. We sat down with the artists to learn more about their journey, their creative process, and how Grenada continues to shape their evolving work.
How did Pintura begin?
Pintura:
We began our pintura journey in a serendipitous way! We were colleagues at university doing medical and scientific illustrations for a few years until one day we teamed up on a mural project for a mutual friend. We had so much fun with that first piece, and once we started posting our progress on social media, people really responded to it! That encouragement pushed us to create a separate social media space for our new creative venture. From there, project requests started rolling in, and we eventually took a leap of faith to make this our full-time art company.
What’s the story behind your name—Pintura by Fari & Clau?
Pintura:
Pintura means “painting” in Spanish. When this was just a side project, we wanted a name that was simple, catchy, and meaningful. Fari wanted to honor Clau’s native Spanish language, and combining our names into the brand made it feel even more personal. When people hear Pintura by Fari & Clau, it resonates on several levels—and it holds a special place in our hearts.
How would you describe your artistic style, especially when working together?
Pintura:
Our style is diverse and ever-evolving. We can freestyle whimsical concepts or shift to precision and realism when needed. What’s unique is how well we flow together—we’re able to follow each other’s brushstrokes seamlessly, even on the same piece. That kind of compatibility is rare and makes our collaboration feel really organic.
Tell us about the mural project at Merveilles. What made it special?
Pintura:
Merveilles has been our largest project to date, with seven mural installations across the space. We worked closely with the client’s theme and color direction, but added our own flair with Grenadian floral and fauna elements. The beauty of Grenada and the Caribbean really inspired us throughout. From digital mockups to traditional painting, we spent months bringing the artwork to life—and it’s been such a rewarding process.
How did you approach designing art for the kids' menu and younger guests?
Pintura:
We’ve both worked in education, and we're young at heart with lots of little ones in our lives—so we’re very comfortable adapting creative material for younger audiences. For the kids’ menu, we started by brainstorming what parts of Grenadian life children could connect with most. We also made sure the designs had larger spaces and simpler lines, so they’re fun and easy to interact with. While the murals are designed for all ages, the menu illustrations are tailored to the playful curiosity of kids.
What elements of that work are you most proud of?
Pintura:
Being able to produce work that represents Grenadian culture for children—especially visitors—is really meaningful to us. We love knowing that a child might learn the name of a Grenadian Carnival character or enjoy coloring in the national bird while dining with family. That kind of exposure sparks curiosity and cultural appreciation.
Do your murals tell a specific Grenadian story?
Pintura:
Our murals have always told Grenadian stories—from the very start of our company. But we believe no single mural can fully capture the depth and richness of Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique. That’s why we aim to reflect the bold colors, nature, and culture of the island rather than trying to tell just one story. We’ll continue celebrating Grenadian stories through our work for years to come.
What was your first impression of Merveilles?
Pintura:
Honestly, we were struck by the scale of the project and the vision behind it. Merveilles is such a thoughtfully designed space meant to welcome both tourists and locals. The artwork really energizes the environment—it adds a playful, interactive element that makes visitors feel like they’re part of something creative, not just passing through.
Pintura by Fari & Clau continue to leave their mark across Grenada—not only with paint and brush, but with storytelling, cultural pride, and imaginative joy. Their work at Merveilles is more than décor—it’s an experience designed to spark wonder in guests of all ages.
